Bozeman Film Society continues its new season with a screening of the critically acclaimed comedy, Hundreds of Beavers. The event will be held at Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre on Friday, October 4th. Directed by Mike Cheslik, the film will screen at 7:30pm.
In this 19th century, supernatural comedy, a drunken applejack salesman must go from zero to hero and become North America’s greatest fur trapper when he loses his whole operation in a fire and is stranded in the wilderness. Now facing starvation, he must survive in a surreal winter landscape surrounded by “Hundreds of Beavers” – all played by actors in full-sized beaver costumes. Using nothing but his dim wits, he develops increasingly complex traps to battle the beavers and win the hand of a mischievous lover. Rated PG, the film runs 108 min.

Following on Wednesday, October 16th is Sundance darling Dìdi. The film screens at 7pm at the Ellen and is directed by Academy Award nominated filmmaker Sean Wang.
The film is a gorgeous, thoughtful, and hilarious coming-of-age story that is cringey in all the right ways. Set in 2008 in the Bay Area, Wang’s semi-autobiographical film is a funny, irreverent and affecting ode to first-generation teenagers navigating the joy and chaos of adolescence as seen through the lens of a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy, played by Izaac Wang (Good Boys, Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon).
At its premiere in competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival it received critical and audience acclaim, winning both the US Dramatic Audience Award and the US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast. Rated R, the film runs 94 min.
“This is an engaging and heartfelt exploration of adolescence, culture, and family that resonates long after the credits roll. A cinematic jewel to treasure.” – Linda Marric, HeyUGuys
Locally filmed nail-biter Thine Ears Shall Bleed lights up the Ellen big screen at 7pm on Wednesday, Oct. 30th. The screening will be followed with a Q&A featuring Montana producers Dennis Aig, Lynn Kouf and Jim Kouf, as well as actor Duke Huston.
Prepare yourself for chilling horror in this haunting new thriller from Director Ben Bigelow. Filmed in and around Darby, Montana, this fearsome feature promises to deliver an unforgettable experience, blending historical drama with supernatural terror.
In the 1860s American West, a minister and his family are traveling in a covered wagon when they hear a mysterious sound from the woods. Believing the sound to be God, they worship it, until they realize the sound is something much darker.
“Thine Ears Shall Bleed is not just another horror film; it is a deeply atmospheric and psychological thriller that delves into themes of faith, fear and the supernatural… a must-watch for horror enthusiasts.” – Emily Bennet, LoveHorror
