The stage is set as Livingston’s Blue Slipper Theatre presents the next production of its current season with Sarah Ruhl’s Late, A Cowboy Song this month. Performances are set for May 9th–18th. Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 8pm, with Sunday matinees to follow at 3pm. The local production is directed by Kyrie Dawson.
Late, A Cowboy Song follows Crick, Mary and Red as they navigate love, identity and change. Crick and Mary have been together long enough for their relationship to feel stagnant, yet they follow the expected path – marriage, a baby, a life within familiar boundaries. Then Red, a lady cowboy, rides into Mary’s world, offering a glimpse of open spaces and a different way of living.
As time accelerates, sweeping them through the years, Mary begins to question the life she has built and whether her true path lies outside the city limits. Late, A Cowboy Song is a lyrical and thought-provoking journey through independence, gender roles and the pace of modern life.
Tickets for Late, A Cowboy Song are $20 for general admission and are available at www.blueslipper.org. Seating at the Blue Slipper, located at 113 E Callender, is limited. Please call (406) 222-7720 for more information. •
