REI events highlight boating, biking & the backwoods
As the vibrant green foliage returns and the grass keeps sprouting, recreationists are reminded it’s high time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors! REI Bozeman continues to host outdoors-based presentations this spring. Here’s a look at a few of the upcoming events and courses.
Learn about aquatic invasive species with Clean. Drain. Dry. on Monday, May 20th from 6–7:30pm. The Invasive Species Action Network, a local nonprofit organization, will discuss how you can take steps to prevent their spread through your spring and summer recreation activities.
Cycling in Glacier National Park follows Thursday, May 30th from 6–7:30pm. Glacier is a million acres of stunning ruggedness with over 700 miles of trails and over 700 lakes. Whether you’ve been to Glacier or not, come and hear a Certified Interpretive Guide and self-professed “Glacier guru” present an overview of the ins and outs of visiting the park. She will focus primarily on biking but will also touch on hiking, camping, wildlife, safety and visiting Glacier during the off-seasons. She has used her environmental interpretation skills in Glacier for four summers, most recently leading groups through the park in her role as a Group Leader with the Road Scholar program.
Looking to next month, National Forest Camping Near Grand Teton & Yellowstone is set for Thursday, June 6th from 6–7:30pm. Fred and Suzi Dow are authors of 12 regional U.S. National Forest Campground Guides and publishers of a website, forestcamping.com. Let them introduce you to the wonders accessed from national forest campgrounds within 70 miles of the entrances to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. They’ll also touch on some of the FS campgrounds in the Southwest Region.
Many REI classes and presentations are free and open to the public, but registration is required as space is limited. Reserve a spot now at www.rei.com/learn, where you can find more information about these and other upcoming courses and events. •
