The Livingston Center for Art and Culture is set to host a number of upcoming workshops to keep the creative juices flowing into fall.
Introduction to Copper Enameling with instructor Beth Gregory will be held on Saturday, October 22nd from 12–4pm. This class is $80 ($75 for Center members) and includes all materials. Enameling is the ancient art of sifting colored, powdered glass onto metal, and fusing it under the heat of a torch or kiln. This technique is super fun, and produces dynamic, colorful jewelry! In this class, you’ll start with recycled copper or precut copper shapes, and learn to safely coat them with enamels. The course will cover cleaning the metal, layering colors, line application, stenciling, and wet-packing. The materials fee covers the use of class tools and supplies, a dust mask, a chain, and ear wires so you can wear your jewelry out the door!
Precious Metal Clay – Rings! with instructor Beth Gregory will follow, Sunday, October 23rd from 10am–3:30pm (including lunch break, BYOL). This class is $105 ($100 for Center members) and includes all materials. Create a custom silver ring! You’ll learn to size the ring and create a strong ring shank. Learn to set a stone in PMC (if desired) and to add decorative elements. The materials fee covers the cost of 16 grams of PMC3, a selection of cubic zirconium stones, and use of class tools. Prerequisite course: Introduction to Precious Metal Clay. Instructor Beth Gregory is a Level 3 Certified PMC Artisan.
A Photography Workshop with Robert Osborn is set for Saturday and Sunday, October 29th and 30th from 10am–4pm each day. This class is $200 ($190 for Center members). Osborn will present a very solid introduction into fine art photography, with an emphasis on digital cameras and the portrait style of Robert Osborn. An important component of this workshop is understanding and controlling exposure.
The Livingston Center is looking for works of original art from artists in the Park County Community. Curator DD Gallagher explains, “Provocative artists are asked to submit provacative works of art in any medium, along with a statement about the intention or meaning of the work. The goal is to provoke ideas or a different way of viewing through technique or subject matter.” All media welcome. Please submit no more than three pieces so everyone can participate. You do not need to be a professional artist to show, but if you are please do not submit work already shown locally. Three to six pieces accepted, depending on the size, may be submitted for curatorial consideration. Please drop off work by Friday, October 7th. Early submissions will be included in advertising.
The Livingston Center for Art and Culture (the Center) is dedicated to providing an opportunity for artists and other professionals to share their skills and talents with residents of Park County & neighboring counties.
