Wild Joe*s perks specialty coffee & caffeinated acoustics
Does the bone-chilling seasonal shift have you looking for ways to warm up? A stop into Downtown Bozeman’s Wild Joe*s for a hot cup is just the ticket. And if you’re swinging in for an evening boost, the Coffee Spot is also a great place to check out acoustic sets by local and traveling artists. Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
Kicking off the month is Jo the Tired Dog with a Sunday afternoon show on December 1st from 1–3pm. The local vocalist and guitarist performs a blend of his own folksy originals including “Home” and “Dead Man,” as well as unique renditions of popular songs. Head downtown and check him out!
The next Open Mic Night takes place Friday, December 6th from 6–8pm. Enjoy an evening of music performed by local musicians. Bring your guitar, sitar, zither, poetry, comedy, or theremin and take a turn up at the mic. Show Bozeman what you’re made of! Individual set lengths depend on the number of musicians who want to play. Sign-ups start at 5:30pm – first come, first served. Be sure to bring your friends and support live music in Bozeman! A modest contribution to the kitty will be divided by participating musicians at the end of the night. The more people who come, the more money in the pot. An additional Open Mic Night is set for Saturday, December 21st from 6–8pm.
Kate & the Alley Kats bring a fun repertoire of holiday tunes to kick off the festive season during the Downtown Christmas Stroll on Saturday, December 7th from 4:30–7:30pm. While you’re strolling and shopping, stop into Wild Joe*s for a cup of java or tea with some delicious treats and festive holiday music on the side! Along with their eclectic repertoire of sassy swing, gutsy R&B, and torchy ballads, the AlleyKats will perform familiar holiday tunes that’ll have you singing and dancing along. Tongue-in-cheek tunes such as “Walking in Our Winter Underwear” and “Santa’s Sleigh” (sung to the tune of “Ghost Riders in the Sky”) will also add a little holiday humor for strollers. AlleyKat performances feature Kate Bryan (vocals, guitar, percussion & clarinet) with Cliff DeManty (keys, vocal harmony) and Ron Schimpf (bass, vocal harmony).
Following on Friday, December 13th, sister duo Emma & the Ledge provide the tunes to accompany an art opening featuring the work of local window painter, Buzzard. The event will be held from 6–8pm. Emma and Abby (“The Ledge”) skillfully create a sound that’s luminous and atmospheric, yet energizing enough to send an audience to their feet. In addition to writing and performing original songs, they offer an eclectic mix of covers from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jack White, and U2 (whom they are greatly inspired by). Their music is not limited to one genre: blues, alternative, rock, folk and independent styles are woven together utilizing a mix of acoustic and electric guitars.
