There are plenty of upcoming events—apart from their wonderful exhibits—to choose from at the Museum of the Rockies in August!
Here’s a look at what’s coming up. In collaboration with the Gallatin History Museum, MOR will host lecture “The Exploration and Discoveries of George Bird Grinnell, The Father of Glacier National Park” featuring speaker Hugh Grinnell, Monday, August 8th beginning at 6pm in Hager Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. Join MOR and the Gallatin History Museum with monthly lectures focused on the dynamic and lively history of the Gallatin Valley. MOR will follow with another lecture highlighting childbirth at the turn of the century.
“Childbirth and Change: Reproduction in Montana” featuring speaker Dr. Jennifer Hill and Stacey Haugland, CPM will be held Thursday, August 18th beginning at 6pm in Hager Auditorium. Using the Tinsley family’s history as a guide, the event will look at the ways pregnancy, childbirth, and delivery complications affected residents of Montana and the West some 100 years ago. In a time of high infant mortality, the Tinsley children all lived to adulthood—a rare occurrence worthy of attention. This event is free and open to the public. The Extreme History Project will present lecture “My Duties…Are not So Clearly Laid Down…:
The Problems of Command on the Montana Frontier” featuring speaker Dr. Tom Rust, Thursday, August 25th beginning at 6pm in Hager Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. Using the past and present Museum of the Rockies inspires life-long learning in science, history, culture, and art; advances knowledge through collections, research and discovery; and presents engaging, vibrant exhibits and programming. MOR brings the world to Montana and Montana to the world. For more information for these and future events, or to register, visit museumoftherockies.org/ or call (406) 994-5257. •
