Featuring an incredible lineup of local and touring acts all season long, Pine Creek Lodge’s summer concert series continues on its outdoor stage at the Paradise Valley venue. Here’s a closer look at who’s performing this month.
Next up, Nick Shoulders & the Okay Crawdad perform with help from Chris Acker on August 4th. Wielding an ethereal croon and masterful whistle crafted from a lifetime chasing lizards through the Ozark hills, the band is a living link to roots of country music with a penchant for the absurd. Combining his family’s deep ties to regional traditional singing with his years of playing to crowded street corners, Shoulders has sought to forge a hybridized form of raucously clever country music – born of forgotten rocky hollers and bred to confront the tensions of the 21st century South.
Comedic musical act Wolves of Glendale follow on August 9th. Zooming in on the absurdity of daily life through their original music and pointed parodies, the Wolves have gained a significant social media following and dedicated fanbase in the mere year and a half they’ve been a band. They’ve performed at the “Netflix Is a Joke Festival,” opened for David Cross, Tenacious D and Jukebox the Ghost, and released three music videos. In the words of Jack Black, “the thing about Wolves of Glendale is… they sound f*cking fantastic.”
Take in an evening with Dead Sky on August 10th. The local Grateful Dead tribute features members of Pinky & the Floyd, MOTH, Kelly Nicholson Band, Hooligans, Dead Yellers, SlomoJoe and more.
The Lodge hosts Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers as part of their “Spirit Trail: 25th Anniversary Tour” on August 15th. Decades after winning a Grammy for Best New Artist and launching one of contemporary music’s most diverse careers, Hornsby still makes joyful noise as he discovers clever and expansive ways to chronicle dynamic musical snapshots of his often generously collaborative journey. Hornsby returns to Southwest Montana following the release of his latest solo album, Deep Sea Vents.
Enjoy the talents of singer/songwriter Langhorne Slim on August 17th. On new album Strawberry Mansion, the celebrated artist shares his struggles with debilitating anxiety and depression, while also discovering the beauty and clarity that came though his journey to recovery. The collection is not about sobriety or self-pity – it’s an album of hope, healing and the belief that we are all connected. If we just block out all the noise and take a deep look within ourselves, we can see it.
Bringing their “Warm Summer’s Night Tour” to Southwest Montana on August 21st is Fruition. Their soaring three-part harmonies and raucous guerilla performances have afforded the band a remarkable 15-year journey that has seen them emerge as a singular force in the world of Americana. Channeling the delicate, playful and honest focus on songcraft and vocal harmony of groups like The Beatles and CSNY, the band continues to create timeless and genuine folk, roots and rock n’ roll. Characterized by three accomplished songwriters and a rhythm section that serves each song with a finely tuned attention to detail and tasteful aesthetic, Fruition manages to consistently release a body of work that is both uniquely their own and instantly familiar. They come to Southwest Montana in support of new studio album, How to Make Mistakes.

Check out Montana’s own Lil Smokies on August 30th. Drawing on the energy of a rock band and the Laurel Canyon songwriting of the ‘70s, the Smokies reimagined their approach to roots music on Tornillo, the band’s third studio album, named for the remote Texas town where it was recorded. Formed in Missoula, Lil Smokies have built a national following through constant touring with performances at Red Rocks, Telluride and more.
Tribute group Fooz Fighters close out the month on August 31st. The award winning band featuring dynamic frontman Nicky Rich have blazed a trail to become the most sought-after tributes in the country, a talented group of world class musicians brought together by a passion to deliver the most authentic live Foo Fighters concert experience possible.
