Discovery Ski Area
Road Trip (inside Montana), United States http://www.skidiscovery.com
High in the Pintlers of western Montana, Discovery Ski Area, with its 6,470 ft. base elevation, is known for high country, light snow, some of America’s steepest lift-served slopes, great cruising runs and friendly atmosphere. Skiing Discovery is no ‘urbanized’ ski resort where you’re skiing past everyone’s condo windows! You’re in Montana and it’s BIG country. The only sounds are from the joy of your friends on the slopes and the occasional ‘cree’ of a circling hawk. Discovery will please you with the facilities at hand for better skiing fun. Four convenient chairlifts cut walking to a minimum, the welcoming lodge is centrally located to all your skiing needs, and parking is fairly flat and close at hand. Slopes are carefully laid out and all are lift served. Experts and beginners all start and return to the same place. Only your cares are miles away. Skiing is also ‘snowboarding.’ If you haven’t yet tired it, we urge you to rent a ‘board’, take some lessons from our ski instructors, and experience this new sensation for yourself. Discover new ways to have fun on the slopes.
Lodging is available in nearby Anaconda or Fairmont Hot Springs is 30 miles east. Fairmont Hot Springs features two Olympic-size pools and two soaking pools (open 24 hours to registered guests), all filled with natural hot springs water, plus Montana’s only year-round 350-foot water slide. The perfect spot to end a day of skiing or snowmobiling by soaking, relaxing or treating yourself to a therapeutic massage. Ski and Slide packages are available.
The climate at Discovery, though obviously winter-like, is seldom harsh. Winter temperatures average in the low 20’s. In Discovery’s lodge, it’s more than merely a cafeteria; any meal is a buffet dining experience…cocktails too, if you wish, in a cozy corner of the lodge upstairs.
Discovery is a family place too. Small enough to ‘let out the leash.’ Within reason, kids can gain some independence from mom and dad, especially in a children’s class. They’re on their own, (kind of), yet safe and supervised. Kids can Discover too, you know.
