American Legion – Manhattan

First organized on 5/27/1920, Manhattan Post 87 has a long standing reputation for supporting and assisting Veterans, their families, the community of Manhattan and the greater Gallatin Valley. We have one of the finest Honor Guards in the State of Montana. Our Honor Guard is continually requested to participate in Veterans memorial services throughout southwestern Montana. Community involvement in years past has included sponsoring and organizing the construction of the first improved all weather road to the Manhattan Cemetery. Currently, our Post sponsors an annual Manhattan Easter egg hunt for community and local area children. We are active in the Manhattan Potato Festival every August and lead the parade held during that event. We co-sponsor local blood drives and food drives. We assist Veterans and their families by organizing and conducting benefits and fundraising activities to help meet their financial needs. We have active programs to support children and youth within Manhattan. We sponsor oratory contests, youth baseball and boys and girls state programs. We conduct annual flag educational programs within local schools. On every Veterans Day, in cooperation with the Manhattan Rotary Club, we conduct a program to personally honor all Veterans within the Gallatin valley. With nearly 170 members in a community of approximately 1600 residents, Post 87 along with its Auxiliary and SAL Squadron have a significant and positive impact on the entire community.
