Local composter accepting pumpkins again this season
En lieu of its annual Pumpkin Smash, Happy Trash Can Curbside Composting has shifted to a socially distanced Pumpkin Drop-Off this year.
Drop off your pumpkins, gourds and jack-o-lanterns at the Bozeman Winter Farmers’ Market on Nov. 14th from 9am–noon. The markets are being held at Gallatin County Fairgrounds. Look out for the designated bins at the entrance and the event organizers will haul them off and take care of the rest.
Thousands of pounds of pumpkins are composted each year. Seasonal and decorative pumpkins add a huge amount of organics waste – this event allows people to divert their pumpkins to make sure they go back into the local food cycle. The event is FREE and open for the public, with no limits on the number of pumpkins. The more the merrier!
Serving the communities of Bozeman and Belgrade since 2016, Happy Trash Can offers biweekly compost collection. They pick up, process, and compost food waste year-round, aiming to provide a simple service to divert all possible food waste from the landfills and turn it into nutrient-rich soil. Happy Trash Can diverted over 100,000 pounds of food waste from Bozeman’s landfill in its first year. Interested in a subscription? Only $15 per month gets you one 5-gallon bucket to be swapped out every week. Log on to www.happytrashcan.net for further information and to subscribe. •
