The Arts Council of Big Sky caps another great summer of free Music in the Mountains with an evening featuring local tribute Pinky & the Floyd on Thursday, September 5th. The annual tradition again comes to Len Hill Park in Town Center and is one of the most anticipated nights of the series. There will be no opening band for this show with music beginning at 7pm.
Since its inception in 2008, the band has exploded in popularity, selling out nearly every show, wherever they travel. Their performances strike the perfect balance between intimacy and intensity, and the energy and stage presence is unprecedented. The band performs over 80 songs, and seven full albums worth of Pink Floyd music making them one of the premier Pink Floyd Tribute acts in the industry. You can expect albums in their entirety, and a little something from every Floyd genre – from Syd Barrett to Division Bell, and everything in between. Their recent tour production entitled “Beyond the Darkside” featured a thoughtfully curated master set that explores Pink Floyd’s darker side and other classics from the band’s immense catalog.
The Arts Council will again host its off-shoot to this summer’s ‘Music in the Mountains’ lineup. On Thursday, September 12th, settle in for the return of Metal in the Mountains, an end-of-summer festival featuring two regional heavy metal bands. The event includes Missoula’s Metallica tribute Blistered Earth as the headliner, with support from Big Sky’s own Scavenger. Music starts at 6:30pm in Len Hill Park.
Playing classic songs ranging from “Kill ‘Em All” to selections from the band’s self-titled release, Blistered Earth pays its respects to one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time with the raw energy, showmanship, look and song selections that die-hard Metallica fans want to see and hear. The band features Jared Kiess as James Hetfield, Shawn Murphy as Lars Ulrich, Cody Davis as Cliff Burton and Jesse Jensen as Kirk Hammett.
Riff-heavy metal band Scavenger has played more than 150 shows since then at venues around Montana and beyond, showcasing their original material. Their first album, Cliff Manor, was released in 2018, and the quartet released their second album Feral last year. The band members – which include Timmy Bowers (drums/vocals), Ben Blodgett (bass/vocals), Joey Mathis (guitar), and Brent Philippi (guitar/vocals) – have been part of the Big Sky community for decades.
Len Hill Park opens at 6pm for both events. These tobacco and vape-free events are family friendly with food and beverage trucks on site. Dogs and glass containers are prohibited.
