Reimagine Montana Exhibit
September 12 to October 31 the Atrium Gallery is proud to display the Montana Preservation Alliance’s special exhibit, Reimagine Montana. Please join us Friday, September 15, 6pm, for the opening reception. The Library will close at 5pm to allow us to get ready for this event.
In 2016, the Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) offered six artists the chance to participate in Reimagine Montana, an Artist-in-Residence program funded through a nationwide Imagine Your Parks Initiative. Timed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts and the centennial of the National Park Service, Reimagine Montana also marks 30 years of preservation work by the MPA. Reimagine Montana celebrates nationally significant parks and outstanding heritage properties in Montana by reinterpreting five historic places depicted by iconic artists such as Karl Bodmer, Thomas Hart Benton, Gustav Sohon, Charlie Russell and Native American traditional artists whose hide paintings, ledger drawings and rock art survive to the current day.
The Reimagine Montana artists whose work will be on display are Ben Bloch (Cameron, MT), David Burke (Oakland, CA), Tim Holmes (Helena, MT), Kit Frost (Durango, CO), DG House (Bozeman, MT) and Lewis Williams (Montrose, CO).
Each artist was paired with a site that resonated with their interests, and was given the opportunity to reflect on these places and their cultural meaning – past, present and future. The resulting work is stunning, bringing beauty and new insights to the heritage of our state and our nation.
The Bozeman Public Library is the final place the exhibit will be on display in Montana this year, having already exhibited in Butte, Helena and Lolo.
