Montana State University has been named one of the best universities nationally for veterans.
A ranking published September 9th in USA Today listed 1,427 of the best colleges and universities for veterans, with MSU being ranked 136th. The ranking places Montana State in the top 10 percent nationally. MSU was the highest-ranked university in Montana on the list.
“MSU works very hard to help its veteran students and their families succeed. We are pleased to be recognized nationally for these efforts,” said Brenda York, director of the MSU Office of Disability, Re-entry and Veteran Services.
The rankings are produced by College Factual, which provides college rankings and an extensive array of college-comparison and decision-making tools to help students. College Factual works to help students find their best-fit, best school, and best deal in higher education. The company also provides insights, rankings, and badges to help colleges identify and market their strengths effectively. USA Today selected College Factual to provide college rankings data for “USA Today’s College Guide 2016.”
College Factual’s veteran rankings are based on 19 different factors, including veteran affordability, veteran population, veteran flexibility, veteran policies, veteran resources, and overall college quality.
The MSU Office of Disability, Re-Entry and Veteran Services helps student veterans coordinate their finances and get the support they need to succeed in school. The office helps veterans with GI Bill funding and other issues, such as housing and employment. Dedicated scholarships for veterans and/or their spouses are also available, as are dedicated counseling services. In the fall of 2011, MSU also opened a new Veteran Support Center to serve the growing number of veterans on campus. •
