ChickenJam West has the show you’re looking for this month in Bozeman. Here’s a look at a little of what’s coming up in October.
Liquid Stranger brings an energized show with help from Bleep Bloop, Perkulat0r, and Shlump on Tuesday, October 11th at the Filling Station at 9pm. Tickets to this 21+ show are $15 in store and at cactusrecords.net/. Doors at 8pm. Liquid Stranger has earned his reputation for exuding incommensurable talent and taking audiences on a soul-stirring aural journey of genre-bending beats on the dancefloor. He has performed at some of the most innovative events and festivals around the globe including Shambhala, Bella Terra, Escape from Wonderland, EDC Orlando, Summer Camp, Paradiso Festival, Beyond Wonderland, Shambhala, Inox Park, SXSW, Enchanted Forrest, Elements Festival, Infrasound Equinox, EDC Las Vegas, etc. Those who are unfamiliar with his music often tend to categorize him as only a heavy dubstep artist, which is anything but the truth. The most effervescent quality of Liquid Stranger is his ability to shift from genre to genre all while maintaining a sense of smoothness and consistency, which in turn makes him one of the most unpredictable artists to date. In a sense, he has ended genre barriers for the sake of musical storytelling taking whatever sounds he needs to put forward the intended vibe. Liquid Stranger’s omnifarious approach to music has led him to stand out amongst a pack of artists desperately trying conform to a commercial demand. Proven to be a timeless staple to the world of electronic dance music by bridging the gap between mellow and heavy, what’s next can not be foreseen for this contrastive musician.
The Lil’ Smokies will perform a two-night stretch, Friday and Saturday, October 14th and 15th at the Eagles Ballroom at 9pm both evenings. Scott Pemberton will open on Friday, with Honeyhoney to open on Saturday. Tickets to these 21+ shows are $15 in advance in store and at cactusrecords.net/ and $18 at the door. A $24 two-night pass is also available. Doors at 8pm both evenings.
With their roots submerged in the thick buttery mud of traditional bluegrass, The Lil’ Smokies have sonically blossomed into a leading player in the progressive acoustic sphere, creating a new and wholly unique, melody driven sound of their own. The quintet—from Missoula—has been hard at work, writing, touring, and playing to an ever-growing fan base for the past 6 years. With a unique blend of traditional bluegrass, newgrass, innumerable unique originals, sheer raw energy, and exquisite musicianship, Lil’ Smokies weave seamlessly through genres, leaving behind melodies you’ll be singing to yourself for days and a jaw you’ll have to pick up.
Scott Pemberton’s sound is much like the vibe of his native Portland: freaky, fun, and just the right amount of weird. The best way to categorize his music is with the moniker “Timber Rock.” Scott naturally applies his own lens/stamp to the sounds of the Pacific North West, the region he has always called home. The deep jazz, NW rock/grunge, blues roots and the West Coast funk. It’s all there, and often all in the same song. Listeners are finding this honest, original and to-the-point music refreshing and fun.
Honeyhoney is the jazzy, twangy, rollicking collaboration between vocalist Suzanne Santo and guitarist Ben Jaffe. Honeyhoney made their studio debut by issuing the Loose Boots EP in early 2008. The musicians then hit the road with Lifehouse (another band on the Ironworks roster) while finding time to work on their debut album. First Rodeo was released later that year, featuring varied influences that ranged from crossover jazz to neo-soul to engaging alt-country. Raymond Richards of Local Natives produced Honeyhoney’s sophomore effort, Billy Jack, which arrived in October 2011 on the group’s own Honeyhoney imprint, distributed by Lost Highway. The duo next signed a recording contract with the esteemed roots music label Rounder Records, and their third album, produced by Dave Cobb and simply titled 3, appeared in April 2015.
