The Bozeman Film Society explores legendary musicians in its spring Jazz on Screen series. Saturday, June 18th at 7 pm brings Miles Ahead, a wildly entertaining and moving exploration of one of 20th century music’s creative geniuses, Miles Davis, featuring a career defining performance by Oscar nominee Don Cheadle in the title role. Cheadle’s bravura directorial debut is not a conventional bio-pic but a unique, no-holds barred portrait of a singular artist in crisis. “A jazzy and unconventional tribute to an American icon, Miles Ahead is quite a ride,” says St. Louis Post-Dispatch film critic Calvin Willson. Rated R. the film runs 100 minutes.
Bozeman Film Society is thrilled to present Miles Ahead in conjunction with the Montana Jazz Collective, which opens the film with a 45-minute live performance of Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue.” Featuring many of Bozeman’s hottest musicians, the Montana Jazz Colletive includes Luca Rodoni on trumpet, Ryan Matzinger on alto sax, Sam White on tenor sax, Bob Nell on piano, Craig Hall on bass, and Adam Greenberg on drums. The musical presentation starts at 7 pm, followed by a 30-minute intermission. The film begins at 8:30 pm.
