Talk with Kids: Youth & Substance Abuse in Our Community
on feb 22 at 6:30 pm at ADSGC
FREE workshop for parents, grandparents and caregivers to learn how to talk with youth about alcohol, drugs and other important things offered by the Adolescent Resource Center. On February 22nd, Ben Kane from the Gallatin County Youth Probation presents on youth trends in substance abuse in our community.
Study after study confirm: parents make a BIG difference in the choices their kids make. Get comfortable talking about alcohol, tobacco, illegal & harmful drugs. Find out what your child thinks. Clearly explain how using these substances can interfere with grades, cause problems in relationships with friends and tear families apart. Facilitated by Jennifer Pazera of the Adolescent Resource Center, guest speakers from other agencies in Gallatin County and counselors from Alcohol and Drug Services, answer your questions.
A certified Prime for Life Instructor, Jennifer Pazera teaches classes for individuals that have received a driving under the influence or misdemeanor dangerous drug charge. She also teaches the Under 18 Minor In Possession classes (which include a parent component) and the 18 & over Minor In Possession classes at Alcohol and Drug Services. She hears the concerns of parents, grandparents and guardians about youth in Gallatin County. Those include substance abuse, effective communication, education on bullying, and child development. In those conversations she kept hearing the same request, “Can the Adolescent Resource Center offer classes to the caregivers, grandparents and guardians of adolescents in the community, to address these concerns?”
Shelly Johnson, Director of ADSGC approved implementation of the Talk with Kids program in August of 2015. Classes continue monthly, generally on the third Monday. They are provided free of charge and open to the public. Pre-registration is required.
The sign-in, meet and greet, and snacks for each evening are held from 6:30-7:00pm at the ADSGC Bridger View Room (2310 N 7th Avenue, Bozeman 59715). Introductions and presentations begin promptly at 7pm. Staff is available for any questions you may have.
