While there have been many changes within the Montana State Bobcat football program over the past three months with the firing of former coach Rob Ash, one thing remains the same. Once again, MSU will be bringing in a big-name speaker to highlight the ‘Cats Triangle Classic in Great Falls in April.
Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN commentator, Joe Theismann will be the keynote speaker at the annual fundraising dinner for the Bobcats on April 8th at the Four Seasons Arena in Montana Expo Park.
Theismann started for seven full seasons for the Washington Redskins beginning in 1974, throwing for over 25,000 yards and 160 touchdowns. Theismann began his professional football career in the CFL following a record-setting career at Notre Dame.
Theismann’s list of accomplishments in his short time as the starting quarterback of the Redskins is distinguished. He was named the Bert Bell Award winner as player of the year, and the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 1982 before being named the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press in 1983. He was also named the Pro Football Writer’s MVP in 1983 as well.
Theismann also earned back-to-back trips to the Pro Bowl in 1982 and 1983 after leading the ‘Skins to the Super Bowl in both years, in addition to being named First Team All-Pro in 1983.
Unfortunately, Theismann’s career was cut short in 1985 following a gruesome leg injury suffered before a live national audience on ESPN’s Monday Night Football versus Lawrence Taylor and the New York Giants.
Cost of admission to the Triangle Classic Banquet are $800 dollars for a table, which includes a prime rib dinner for 10, $85 for a single dinner or $55 for admission with no dinner. The banquet is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. on April 8th. The Bobcat football team will also be holding a limited scrimmage at Great Falls High’s Memorial Stadium on Saturday, April 9th with the time to be determined.
