The MSU School of Film and Photography has announced auditions for “Spring Awakening,” a rock musical by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik. Performances will be in April of 2017, at MSU’s Black Box Theater. Auditions are to be held Monday and Tuesday, October 24th and 25th, from 7–9pm at the Black Box, located at the corner of 11th and Grant on the MSU campus.
Please prepare up to 64 bars or a verse and chorus of a song in the style of the musical. This is a rock musical, so strong voices that fit into the rock/pop genre are being sought. Musical theater style singing and classical voices are not being considered for this production. The ability to read music is not required. Piano accompaniment will be provided. Please bring sheet music, if possible. This musical is rated “R” with some adult themes and language. Cold readings of scenes from the play will also be part of the audition. Ideally, all roles being cast at this time will look high school age. Familiarity with the script and music is helpful.
