Skilled singer/songwriters from near and far visit downtown Coffee Spot
The start of the sunny season means longer days to enjoy Southwest Montana’s many outdoor activities! Caffeinate appropriately with a stop into Wild Joe*s. And while you’re enjoying summer’s beginnings, Downtown Bozeman’s Coffee Spot is a great place to check out acoustic sets by local and traveling artists. Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
From Lincoln, Nebraska, indie folk solo act Andrea von Kampen opens up a new month of live music on Sunday, June 2nd from 3–5pm. With an effortless vocal delivery that has been praised as “soulful and worn-in,” the singer/songwriter has released two successful EPs in Another Day and Desdemona, as well as a Christmas collection and live album. She draws inspiration from literature, art, and nature. von Kampen’s debut full-length, Old Country, released in February. She has shared the stage with artists such as Tall Heights, Ira Wolf, Dead Man Winter, The Brother Brothers, Dead Horses, and Darling West, among others.
The next Open Mic Night will take place Friday, June 7th from 6–8pm. Come for an evening of music performed by local musicians. Bring your guitar, sitar, zither, poetry, comedy, or theremin and take a turn up at the mic. Show Bozeman what you’re made of! Individual set lengths depend on the number of musicians who want to play. Sign-ups start at 5:30pm – first come, first served. Be sure to bring your friends and support live music in Bozeman! A modest contribution to the kitty will be divided by participating musicians at the end of the night. The more people who come, the more money in the pot. An additional Open Mic Night is set for Saturday, June 22nd from 6–8pm.
Local musician Jacob Rountree entertains on Saturday, June 8th at from 6–8pm. Bringing an indie rock/folk sound to every performance, he sings songs with contemplative and powerful messages that are relatable and help build the soul. If his audience isn’t captivated by the introspective lyrics and unique finger-picking, they’re guaranteed to be mesmerized by his multi-dimensional performance. Inspired by artists such as Ben Howard, Jose Gonzales and Nick Drake, Rountree uses his percussive technique, while looping and layering dynamic rhythms, to create a rare musical experience.
Coloradoan-turned-Montanan singer/songwriter Sam Hebensteit visits Bozeman with a Wild Joe*s show on Saturday, June 15th from 6–8pm. His music is influenced by many songwriters including Neil Young, James Taylor, and numerous others from the 60s and 70s. Hebensteit loves sharing his music with the beautiful people of Bozeman – and puts on a great show!
