Led Zeppelin tribute, Joshua Radin & songstress Molly Tuttle at Rialto
There’s plenty of live entertainment at the Rialto to help the antsy folks of Southwest Montana get through their cabin fever this winter! The historic theater brings an exciting lineup of top-tier talent from around the country to its event space in Downtown Bozeman. Here’s a look at just a few of the upcoming happenings.
Ever wanted to try stand up? Take a chance with the Light Box Comedy Series open mic on Friday, February 22nd at 8pm. Experienced comedians and newbies alike are welcome to take a shot on stage – or just head upstairs and enjoy the show. This 18+ event is free of admission. Doors at 7pm.
Also on Feb. 22nd, Zoso: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience returns to Bozeman with a performance downstairs at 8:30pm. Tickets to this 18+ show are $25. Doors at 7:30pm.
Zoso embodies Page, Plant, Bonham, and Jones in their spirit, tightly wound talent and authenticity. Each band member has been carefully selected to portray both the appearance and playing styles of their Led Zeppelin counterparts. Zoso’s live shows are not about simply playing the right notes, they are about aura and feeling, harkening back to the unique atmosphere Led Zeppelin created. It’s in the way they play: each band member’s mastery of authentic vintage instruments, coupled with spot on vocals, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards, their compelling stage persona, and distinct Led Zeppelin sound, with astounding visual imagery recreates the music, magic, and mystery of a Zeppelin concert.
Kitchen Dwellers follow on Saturday, February 23rd with help from “Cosmic American” Minneapolis band Kind Country opening at 8:30pm. Tickets to this 18+ show are $20. Doors at 7:30pm.
Montana-bred bluegrass outfit Kitchen Dwellers are captivating fans across the country with their high energy live performances and unique approach to traditional music fans have dubbed “Galaxy Grass.” The band has shared the stage with acts such as Railroad Earth, Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, and Twiddle. Comprised of Joe Funk (bass), Shawn Swain (mandolin), Torrin Daniels (banjo), and Max Davies (guitar), Kitchen Dwellers released their eponymous debut in 2013, followed by Ghost In the Bottle, last spring.
Joshua Radin and Lissie bring a duo performance on Thursday, February 28th with opener Lily Kershaw at 8:30pm. Tickets to this 18+ show are $25. Doors at 7:30pm.
Love and the complications surrounding it have long proven to be Radin’s songwriting forte. Though he never intended to be a live performer, there was little choice when the first song he ever wrote, “Winter,” was featured on an episode of Scrubs. The resulting fervor around the song soon led to a record deal. Over the last decade, Radin’s toured the world countless times, sold half a million records and topped the iTunes charts. He’s earned raves from Rolling Stone, performed on The Tonight Show, Conan, Ellen, The Today Show and played at Ellen DeGeneres’ wedding at her personal request. He has had his songs featured in more than 150 different films, commercials, and TV shows. Radin, born in Cleveland and now living in LA released his latest album, The Fall, in 2017. Recent singles “A World to Explore” and “Three Little Birds” are also available now.
Lissie Maurus was raised in the riverside town of Rock Island, Illinois, and she drew upon those blue-collar Midwestern origins to create her own form of indie folk music. Lissie’s third studio effort, the Curt Schneider-produced My Wild West, released in 2016. Recorded in Los Angeles, Ojai, and Nashville, the album had a moody, noir-ish feel. After relocating to Iowa the next year, she wrote the album that became Castles, a stripped-back, direct record released last spring.
Looking to next month, singer/songwriter Molly Tuttle performs on Saturday, March 2nd with local help by Holler N’ Pine at 8:30pm. Tickets to this 18+ show are $20. Doors at 7:30pm.
Showcased on Rise, Tuttle’s 2017 debut EP, are her lucent vocals, smart writing, and incredible flat-picking. Produced by Kai Welch (Abigail Washburn, Bobby Bare, Jr., the Greencards), the seven-song collection relies on a rock-solid bluegrass foundation as she breaks free without breaking ties, singing and exploring what her six-string acoustic guitar can do. Tuttle won the 2018 Americana Music Award for Instrumentalist of the Year and will release her anticipated full-length, When You’re Ready, in early April. Produced by Ryan Hewitt (The Avett Brothers, The Lumineers), the album will feature appearances by Jason Isbell and mandolinist Sierra Hull. Lead-off single “Take the Journey” is available now.
