Meet the author at Country Bookshelf

Country Bookshelf in Downtown Bozeman — Montana’s largest independent bookstore since 1957 — has an exciting slate of upcoming events for bookworms and literature enthusiasts alike.
Visit with author Leif Whittaker when he stops in to discuss My Old Man and the Mountain on Sunday, May 7th at 4pm.
In 1963, the world followed the first American Mount Everest Expedition, and watched as “Big Jim” Whittaker became the first American to stand on top of the world. He returned home a hero. My Old Man and the Mountain is Leif Whittaker’s engaging and humorous story of what it was like to “grow up Whittaker,” the youngest son of Jim Whittaker and Diane Whittaker, and an extended family of accomplished climbers.
Come meet Beth Judy — the author of Bold Women in Montana History — on Thursday, May 11th at 6pm. The fifteen-plus women portrayed in this engaging book were indeed bold, breaking down barriers of sexism, racism, and political opposition to emerge as heroines of their time. The sixth book in Mountain Press’ state-by-state series for teen readers, Bold Women in Montana History reveals the feminine side of the Treasure State’s storied past.
Within the pages are stories of fearless femmes who dared to dream and resolved to take action. Among them we meet Annie Morgan, a Philipsburg homesteader whose mysterious life is only now coming to light; the bronc-riding Greenough sisters, Alice and Marge, who became rodeo stars during the sport’s heyday; and Elouise Cobell, champion of Native American rights.
Perfect for school or home, this collection of short but informative biographies is both a valuable resource and an entertaining read. For readers young and old, Bold Women in Montana History proves what women can accomplish when they dare to be bold.
The Country Bookshelf is located at 28 W. Main St. downtown. All events are free and open to the public. For more information about the store or these events, visit www.countrybookshelf.com/ or call (406) 587-0166. •
