Local youth brings Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night & Cymbeline to life
The Children’s Shakespeare Society will present two of the English poet’s celebrated plays over the course of a single weekend. Enjoy stagings of the hilarious Twelfth Night on Friday, March 22nd, at 7pm and Saturday, March 23rd, at 2:30pm. Shakespeare-lovers are also invited to take in the imaginative Cymbeline later on Saturday, March 23rd, at 7pm and Sunday, March 24th, at 2:30pm. All performances will be held at Christus Collegium, located at 714 8th Ave. in Bozeman.
Directed by Sasha Kostyrko and Erik Pearson, Cymbeline, often called Shakespeare’s fairy tale, has everything a good one should! A wicked stepmother, a misguided ruler, and even a fabulous female heroine who has the wits, courage, and determination to save her own skin! Bozeman’s version, set in ancient Scandinavia, will captivate and lead audiences on a journey not soon forgotten.
The other half of the Children’s Shakespeare Society’s young players bring you one of his beloved comedies, Twelfth Night, directed by Tonya Andrews and Hannah Palmer. Set in New Orleans during the 20s to music composed by Stefan Stern, this madcap adventure has all the best Shakespearean devices we know and love. Siblings divided by shipwreck, mistaken identity, a pair of hilarious clowns, and lots of crazy ‘near-miss’ moments to entertain.
General admission is $11, or $15 for one performance of each. Children under the age of 10 pay $7 or $11, respectively. Advance tickets may be purchased through www.shakespearekidsmt.org. Call (406) 600-1145 with additional questions and to reserve tickets over the phone.
Since 2010, the Children’s Shakespeare Society has provided classical literary, educational and theatrical opportunities for children to include multiple full-length productions of Shakespeare’s plays, Victorian Melodrama and Vaudeville, as well as workshops and camps on topics such as fight choreography, archery, scenic and costume design, just to name a few. •
