The Bozeman Amateur Hockey Association (BAHA) announced that its Haynes Hockey League (HHL) has exceeded 600 adult players in its regular season, which runs through April.
There are 35 teams in the league, which are made up of men and women, ages eighteen to seventy. Regular season registrations have grown exponentially over the years. BAHA Operations Manager, Julie Keck, says that “the growth is a combination of new players convincing their friends to join the fun and experienced players who are moving to the area from other communities.” Along with the HHL, the youth hockey program is the other major user group at the ice arena in Haynes Pavilion at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds, with more than 250 local youth taking part in travel and non-travel leagues. The at-capacity schedule, maintained by BAHA, also includes public pleasure skating, figure skating, and curling. “Problems posed by a full ice schedule will be alleviated by our second ice rink,” said Keck, “which is currently under construction next to existing Haynes Pavilion.” The capital campaign to build the new year-round ice arena is managed by BAHA’s sister organization, the Gallatin Ice Foundation. BAHA says that enthusiasm remains high as both fundraising and construction on Phase Two of the project continues through the winter.
