The Ellen Theatre has has a little something for everyone in early April. From classic and family film, dance, and another diverse round of abbreviated presentations, here’s a look at what’s happening downtown! Nineties favorite The Shawshank Redemption will screen on Friday, April 7th at 7:30pm. Director Frank Darabont adapted the screenplay from Stephen King’s short story “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.” In the film, “two imprisoned men bond over a number of years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency.” All seats are $5.

Mark your calendars! Another FREE family movie is set for Sunday, April 9th with The Ellen’s presentation of Walt Disney classic Lady and the Tramp at 2pm. Released all the way back in 1955 and still captivating audiences in 2017, the film is “the romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel dog and a streetwise downtown Mutt.” No ticket is needed for family movies. The Ellen Theatre bursts with the excitement on Saturday, April 15th as the high energy, collaborative performance Tutu Cool soars through the air! Tutu Cool is a Montana dance collective bringing ballet, modern and contemporary dance together for one incredible evening. This year’s performance features exciting works by local and out-of-town choreographers and dancers, and includes a special appearance by The Ellen’s own TATE Academy!
Tutu Cool is enjoyable for audiences of all ages, and a must-see for dance lovers! Tickets are $20.50 for adults and $10.50 for students. Pecha Kucha Night returns to The Ellen, Wednesday and Thursday, April 19th and 20th. Doors open at 5:30pm each evening, before the presentations begin at 6:40pm. You are encouraged to come early and socialize. These events will include a twenty-minute intermission. Pecha Kucha (peh-chak-cha) offers anyone with a passion or a vision — designers, artists, inventors, architects, adventurers, entrepreneurs — an opportunity to share their ideas with the community during a fast-paced, friendly social get-together. There’s just one catch — presenters have only 20 slides x 20 seconds each, a total of 6 minutes, 40 seconds! Pecha Kucha (sounds like chit-chat in Japanese) was created twelve years ago by a Tokyo architectural firm. Events are now held around the world in more than 800 cities. Looking for More Information?
