AVA is a Montana-grown musician whose original songs blend indie, jazz and R&B influences into folk roots. A lifelong songwriter and performer, the new EP is directly reflective of her experiences as a young woman living in the era of late capitalist, mass-mediated America.
tiny iota writes tiny songs that scream like a dust mite into the eternal abyss. Their new EP, Town Crier features six unique tracks.
Peelander-Z
New York-born Peelander-Z takes the stage Friday, November 8th. JD Pinkus of Butthole Surfers and Supersuckers’ Eddie Spaghetti open at 9pm. Tickets to this 21+ show are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Doors at 8pm.
Peelander-Z is a Japanese action comic punk band based in Austin. They’ve toured extensively in North America, Japan and Europe, having also appeared at major music festivals including Bonnaroo and the Vans Warped Tour. The live show guarantees intense audience participation and a chance to rock out and have a great time. The band is currently working on the follow-up to last year’s Go Pz Go in celebration of their 20th anniversary.
On Saturday, November 9th, The Last Revel return to Southwest Montana with a Paul Lee Kupfer-assisted show at 9pm. Tickets to this 21+ show are $14 in advance and $18 at the door. Doors at 8pm.
A group of powerfully talented multi-instrumentalists, The Last Revel naturally blend the genres of folk, rockabilly, old time string-band and rock to create a sound equally original and timeless. They’re known to consistently deliver “bombastic live performances,” as well as delicate and haunting folk ballads. Their new album, Fool’s Spring, showcases the band’s ability to create rich and delicately textured recorded material with a modern “tip of the hat” to the storied history of American folk music. Imagine the brainchild of Dr. Seuss, Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Stanley Kubrick and Rube Goldberg, and you begin to understand the spectacle of a That 1 Guy performance by Berkeley, California-based and classically trained musician Mike Silverman. As inventor and player of The Magic Pipe, That 1 Guy’s show has to be seen to be believed, as he single-handedly (and foot-edly) plays his amazing instrument, made out of miked steel pipes with a single, thick bass string wired from top to bottom, not to mention an Appalachian handsaw, an electric cowboy boot and belching smoke.
Combining elements of classical music with electronica, Silverman puts his classical training to good use creating music that is ethereal, gothic and heart-pounding. His one-man concert performance is equal parts music, technology, science, art and spectacle, as he uses his hands and feet to create an industrial tribal rhythm that must be seen and heard to be believed. His album, The Moon is Disgusting, is available now.
Looking ahead, the Scott Pemberton Electric Power Trio takes the stage Thursday, November 21st, at 8pm. Tickets to this 21+ show are $9 in advance and $12 at the door. Doors at 7pm.
Pemberton’s sound is much like the vibe of his native Portland: freaky, fun, and just the right amount of weird. The best way to categorize his music is with the moniker “Timber Rock,” also the title of his latest album. Pemberton naturally applies his own stamp on the sounds of the Pacific Northwest, the region he has always called home. The deep jazz, NW rock/grunge, blues roots, and the West Coast funk – it’s all there.
