Old Main landscape exhibit conveys our relationship with natural world
Old Main Gallery & Framing is pleased to feature “Partly Cloudy,” a solo exhibition featuring new works by Bruce Park, during the month of December. An opening reception will take place on Friday, December 6th from 5–7pm. The event is open to the public.
The showcase exemplifies how Park honors the subject of landscape through pastel and oil paintings which convey unexpected and wonderful relationships with the world. Each painting, becoming a meditation on the relationships between light, beauty and the sublime.
“Each moment on a ‘Partly Cloudy’ day can lead to big changes in the way I see light and color as it plays on the clouds and land,” says Park. “The possibility of seeing dynamic shadows floating along the foothills, mountains and valley gives rise to my efforts to capture the beauty I see and love. It is the ultimate opportunity to view an incredible color play of intense hues throughout the day, especially at sunrise and sunset.”
Bruce Park has been drawing, printmaking and painting for over 35 years. His paintings focus on exploring formal shapes and textures to emphasize his personal experience and reflections on the land. Using layers of color, Park is able to express the intensity of a summer sunset, the gentle light after an afternoon rain or the vivid hues of autumn. All in an effort to further intimate human connections with the earth, through simple gestures of painting and drawing.
