Nell Robinson’s ‘Rose of No Man’s Land’ on October 9 at Ellen -tour of Montana with special guest Ramblin’ Jack Elliott
“There’s an earthiness to these cuts that will almost make you think you are listening to some alternate cuts from a Carter Family session from the 1930s. The writing and the instrumentation are old-school sounding and will no doubt take you back.”
-CHUCK DAUPHIN, Billboard, Music News Nashville
Nell Robinson presents ‘The Rose of No Man’s Land, ’ the Number 1 Folk Album of 2014, in concert in Helena and Bozeman on October 8 and 9th. Her concert takes you on a journey through 250 years of war and service and family. The concert will include music from the Revolutionary War to the present, interwoven with letters, stories and poetry from generations of her rural Alabama family. The show features originals as well as songs from legendary songwriters such as Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, Johnny Cash and familiar songs from centuries ago.
Joined by musical partner and Grammy winner Jim Nunally, who currently tours with both the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and John Reischman and the Jaybirds, is a Flatpick Guitar Award Winner. Rounding out the band are such musical superstars as Pete Grant on Pedal Steel, Jon Arkin on percussion and the legendary Jim Kerwin on Bass.
National Medal of Arts winner and folk icon Ramblin’ Jack Elliott is prominently featured on the “The Rose of No Man’s Land” album so we are in for a real treat as the band joins Jack to perform a few songs and stories from the project – which Nell Robinson created using actual letters from her Alabama family with stories deeply intertwined with events in American history. The outcome is poignant, funny and connective. The show is fun, very lively and features great music both familiar and new.
The legendary Elliott is one of the remaining folk troubadours and was dubbed, “King of the Folksingers” by Bob Dylan. After 60 plus years of touring, to say he’s mastered his craft would be an understatement. Any chance to spend time with this national treasure should not be missed.
