ChickenJam West and the Filling Station has the show you’re looking for this month in Bozeman.
Here’s a look at what’s coming up in late April. Brothers Gow will take the stage Sunday, April 17th beginning at 9pm. Tickets to this 21 and over show are just $8 at the door. Doors at 8pm. Borrowing from a massive cache of influences, Brothers Gow, based in San Diego, CA, by way of Flagstaff, AZ, is a funk-rock-improv quintet that relies on thoughtful lyrics, deep grooves, and improvisational tact to keep each show sounding fresh and unique. The band’s energetic stage presence combined with powerful vocal harmonies, complex arrangements, ripping guitar solos, and the band’s awe-inspiring lighting makes each show memorable. Relentlessly touring and committed to their sound, they have criss-crossed most of the western United States since 2007, playing landmark venues such as Nectar’s in Seattle, Orpheum Theater in Flagstaff, Rialto Theater in Tucson, The Top Hat in Missoula, Brick and Mortar in San Francisco, and House of Blues in San Diego.
Scott Pemberton Trio is due to perform on Sunday, April 24th at 9pm. Tickets to this 21 and over show are $8 in advance in store or at cactusrecords.net/ and $10 at the door. Doors at 8pm. Pemberton’s sound is much like the vibe of his native Portland: freaky, fun and just the right amount of weird. The best way to categorize his music is with the moniker “Timber Rock.” Scott naturally applies his own lens/stamp to the sounds of the Pacific North West, the region he has always called home. The deep jazz, NW rock/grunge, blues roots and the west coast funk. It’s all there, and often all in the same song.
The Lil’ Smokies will perform with help from The Last Revel on Thursday, April 28th at 10pm. Tickets to this 21 and over show are $16 in advance in store or at cactusrecords.net/ and $20 at the door. Doors at 9pm. With their roots submerged in the thick buttery mud of traditional bluegrass, The Lil’ Smokies have sonically blossomed into a leading player in the progressive acoustic sphere, creating a new and wholly unique, melody driven sound of their own. The quintet, from Missoula, MT, has been hard at work, writing, touring and playing to an ever-growing fan base for the past 6 years. The fruits of their labor recently culminating with their win this year at the 2015 Telluride Bluegrass festival band competition. In October 2014, they were nominated by the Internal Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) for Momentum Band of the Year and in 2013 they won The Northwest String Summit Band Competition. With a unique blend of traditional bluegrass, newgrass, innumerable unique originals, sheer raw energy, and exquisite musicianship, The Lil’ Smokies weave seamlessly through genres, leaving behind melodies you’ll be singing to yourself for days and a jaw you’ll have to pick up off the floor.
From the budding music scene of the Upper Midwest comes the cutting edge Front Porch Americana soundscapes of The Last Revel. This powerfully talented trio of multi-instrumentalists from Minneapolis, MN so naturally blends the genres of Folk, Rockabilly, Old Time String-Band and Rock to create a sound that is as equally original as it is timeless. The Last Revel trio utilizes their multi-instrumental abilities to bring the acoustic guitar, upright bass, fiddle, 5-string banjo, harmonica, kick drum and three-part vocal harmonies together to consistently deliver “Bombastic live performances,” as well as delicate and haunting folk ballads. With their second, self titled, album released in May of 2015, The Last Revel further demonstrates their ability to create rich and delicately textured recorded material with a modern “tip of the hat” to the storied history of American folk music. Farch, Chairea and Heartless_3 are set to perform on Friday, April 29th beginning at 10pm. Tickets to this 21 and over show are just $7 at the door. Doors at 9pm.
The Montana Messiah Farch is back in town! A favorite of Bozeman, Farch has been wowing audiences with mic skills and absolutely captivating live performances. Joining him is Bozeman’s own Chairea, who marries earnest lyrics and airy melodies with ferocious riffs and pulverizing drums to create a rock and roll stew as beautiful and chaotic as your early 20s. Also joining for their first time in Bozeman is hip-hop trio Heartless_3. They are musically inclined Individuals who have met in Great Falls, which is not known for the hip-hop scene. Though each and everyone of them is uniquely different, they come together through a shared passion for music.
Yurt and Wrinkles will perform alongside Left on Tenth on Saturday, April 30th beginning at 10pm. Tickets to this 21 and over show are just $7 at the door. Doors at 9pm. Yurt is Bozeman’s newest youth sensation. Wrinkles is Missoula’s oldest youth sensation. Left on Tenth is Bozeman’s newerest youth sensation.
