The Montana State University School of Music will host Jazz Celebration, a concert and reception at the Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.
The evening will feature MSU’s dancing Swing Cats, a student organization that promotes vintage swing dancing, the Studio Jazz Band, and One O’clock Jazz Band, led by MSU music professor Ryan Matzinger. Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be available.
The event will begin with the Combo Jazz Band performing with Anna Hatcher and Mercer Pickens on bass, Joey Beran and Jarred Clos on percussion, Cal Treadway on keyboards, Matt Sloan on tenor saxophone and Craig Hall on guitar.
The main performances by the Studio Jazz Band and the One O’clock Jazz Band will feature guest artists Rob Kohler on bass, Curt Warren on guitar and Matzinger on saxophone.
MSU music professor Jeremiah Slovarp, assisted by MSU music technology students, will make a live recording of the One O’clock Jazz Band during their portion of the concert.
Tickets are $12 for general admission or $8 for MSU students and are available online through the School of Music at http://ticketpeak.com/msumusic or at the door.
