ChickenJam West presents local group Modern Sons at the Filling Station on Friday, March 8th with help from Mad Pattern and Henry + Isla at 9pm. Tickets to this 21+ event are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Doors at 8pm.
Rooted in garage rock, the four-piece Sons bring an ubiquitously sonic ambience with crunchy guitars and sophisticated bass lines. Organic structures are not based in a particular style of music but rooted in the expression of experience and the song itself. The band effectively and skillfully uses textural changes of dynamic to step into another sub genre of rock they coin “psychedelic post-punk.” Modern Sons’ latest release, Moon Raccoon, is available now.
On Saturday, March 9th, Portland-born Dirty Revival are back at the Filler with regional faves DASH opening at 9pm. Tickets to this 21+ event are $9 in advance and $12 at the door. Doors at 8pm.
Dirty’s soulful sounds and energetic beats deliver an atmosphere that enraptures any audience. Led by the soulful vocals of Sarah Clarke, the ensemble has made its mark on the Pacific Northwest. The unique group of players deliver powerful original tracks and superbly arranged classics with a resounding presence, no matter how big or small the venue. The dynamic, seven-piece soul outfit shines on stage, and defines influences from funk and soul-infused icons of the past. Dirty Revival’s self-titled debut album and single “So Cold” are available now.
Mid-month sees a double-header at the Filling Station. On Friday, March 15th, Adrian Legg brings an early, seated show at 8pm. Tickets are $25 in advance and $28 at the door. Following at 10pm, Brothers Gow perform after an opening set by STiLGONE. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Doors to these 21+ shows are at 7pm and 9:30pm, respectively.
Globally acclaimed by critics and fans alike for his unique acoustic and electric fingerstyle guitar playing, Adrian Legg masterfully blends diverse musical styles, influences and inspirations to create a distinctive sound all his own. With multiple awards and accolades spanning four decades, Legg has been heralded as a “guitarist of astonishing virtuosity, [whose] imagination and melodic invention seem unbounded,” (Q magazine); “ridiculously talented,” (Music Week) and “simply the best acoustic guitar player I’ve ever heard”(guitar icon Joe Satriani). Setting the stage for his international success in the decades to follow, Legg was named as Acoustic Guitarist of the Decade by the UK’s Guitarist Magazine (1984-94), and Best Acoustic Fingerstylist in Guitar Player Magazine’s Readers’ Poll for four years in a row (1993-96).
Situated between deep improvisational musicianship and dynamic, original songwriting, Brothers Gow brings to the stage an imaginative style of modern rock, progressive funk and unpredictable retro-electronic jams. Through an exploration in lively and evolving sound, the band has managed to stay true to its roots, which are found in the vibrant vocal styles and extensive range of frontmen Kyle Merrill (guitar/vocals) and Ethan Wade (bass/vocals). Merrill’s emotional solos in tandem with skilled shredding are balanced by the avant-garde bass musings and riff writing of Wade. Brothers Gow is rounded out by wild syncopation and explosive grooves from drummer Nathan Walsh-Haines, and the exploratory and harmonic subtleties of keyboardist Alex Mello who joined the lineup in early 2018. The Brothers are back in the studio working on their follow-up to 2014’s Reflections.
