GALLATIN HISTORY MUSEUM’S 4TH ANNUAL BARN WEEKEND ………..A LECTURE, PIE SOCIAL, AND BARN TOUR-HORSE PROPERTIES
Barns built in Gallatin County from the 1880 until 1911 will be featured on Friday, May 13 and 14 at the 4th Annual Barn Tour events sponsored by the Gallatin History Museum. Barns are still the most impressive features of our rural landscape. In the rush to develop the Gallatin Valley the agricultural roots of our community are being destroyed daily. In the desire to offer testimony to our agrarian roots, please join Montana State University Associate Professor Maire O’Neill for a presentation about the construction and historic relevance of Gallatin Valley Horse Barns. This lecture will highlight O’Neill’s work with award winning university architect students and area rural properties. This lecture will be located at the Gallatin History Museum located at 317 W. Main Street, Bozeman on Friday, May 13, 6:30pm. Following the lecture the Museum will host the ever popular Pie Social. Cost $20/person
For the fourth year, Gallatin History Museum will be hosting its wonderful Barn Tour on Saturday, May 14. This year’s theme is “Barn Tour—Horse Properties”. Again, O’Neill will join the museum’s events as the tour guide and will explain the structure’s construction and relevance to farming and ranching practices using horses in the Gallatin Valley.
Departures for the Barn Tour from the Gallatin History Museum will leave at 10:30am by school bus and return to the museum by 4 pm. Sack lunch will be provided. Dress for the weather and wear shoes for uneven terrain. Don’t miss this traditional, one of a kind, fundraiser for the Gallatin’s History Museum. You’ll find it fun and educational. A drive about the community will never be the same as you learn to observe and appreciate and honor these agricultural treasures.
Advance tickets for the Friday night lecture are available for $20/person. Saturday tickets, for the guided Barn Tour include bus transportation and lunch. $45/person. Tickets may be purchased online at www.GallatinHistoryMuseum.org or by calling the Museum at 406-522-8122 or by visiting the Museum, 317 W. Main Street, Bozeman.
