Greater Yellowstone Coalition Spring Forward webinar
May 7 @ 4:00pm
We’re excited to announce more opportunities to get to know Greater Yellowstone Coalition’s crucial conservation work and the staff making it happen. Join us at our three Spring Forward webinars in the coming weeks and you’ll hear firsthand how GYC is protecting this remarkable ecosystem and be able to ask questions of our experts. Learn more about each webinar below and make sure to RSVP today to save your spot! The migration of elk, mule deer, and other ungulates is the beating heart of this remarkable region. However, these ancient paths are often obstructed by the many roads bisecting Greater Yellowstone. Wouldn’t it be great if we could give ungulates and other wildlife their own safe little highway? Luckily, that’s where wildlife crossings come in! Our presenter is GYC’s Wyoming Conservation Coordinator Jared Baecker, a long-time conservation collaborator based out of Jackson, Wyoming. You’ll learn about Wyoming’s world-famous migration pathways, why wildlife crossings are the best long-term solution for enhancing wildlife movement corridors and keeping drivers safe, and how GYC is supporting the building of wildlife overpasses and underpasses. Wednesday, April 24 / 4-5 p.m. MT / Zoom link provided on registration RSVP NOW
Did you know that beavers are one of the unsung heroes of Greater Yellowstone? These furry ecosystem engineers are more than just impressive teeth with a penchant for cutting down trees. Beavers play a crucial role in shaping the landscape around them, allowing for wetlands to flourish and biodiversity to thrive. Leading the presentation will be GYC’s Senior Climate Conservation Associate Kurt Imhoff, a geomorphologist based in Lander, Wyoming with a special affinity for the second-largest living rodent. You’ll learn about how beavers influence the world around them and how GYC is working to support beaver relocation and beaver mimicry projects to rehabilitate riverscapes and enhance climate resiliency. Tuesday, May 7 / 4-5 p.m. MT / Zoom link provided on registration RSVP NOW
Wolves represent one of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem’s greatest conservation success stories. Today, they’re not just a vital part of the ecosystem but also a boon to the local economy, bringing in around $82 million annually through wildlife-watching and tourism. Despite challenging wolf management policies, wolves are abundant in the region and now’s the time to cement their future. GYC’s Wildlife Conservation Coordinator Brooke Shifrin will lead us through the history and ecological value of this iconic species, talk about the present challenges and opportunities wolves are facing, and wrap-up with how GYC is working to advocate for science-based ethical wolf management driven by wildlife professionals instead of politicians. In her work, Brooke strives to use effective leadership, collaboration, and strategic thinking as the key ingredients to securing durable policy changes and implementing innovative solutions that benefit wildlife. Wednesday, May 15 / 4-5 p.m. MT / Zoom link provided on registration RSVP NOW
