A cornerstone of Bozeman culture brings the variety this month. Downtown’s Ellen Theatre is your source for some of the area’s best big screen entertainment and stage performances. The space also houses some great musical acts, both local and those coming through town. Here’s a look at what’s happening on Main.
The Irish Rovers have charmed and entertained audiences worldwide for over half a century and they’re back in Bozeman on Friday, February 22nd at 7pm! On this final world tour, the band hopes to sing a proper farewell to all those they have entertained for these many years. After more than 40 albums released in North America, and many more internationally, the Rovers continue to receive rave reviews for their recordings and performances. And don’t miss your chance to hear the long-awaited sequel to the famed “Unicorn” song. Tickets are $31 – and going fast! The USAF Academy Band Falconaires are set for a Saturday night performance on February 23rd at 7pm. The versatility and professionalism of this unique ensemble reflects the great diversity and ingenuity that makes the USAF the greatest air, space and cyberspace force the world has ever known. The Air Force Academy Band’s Falconaires play a major role in cultivating our national heritage through America’s indigenous musical genre, jazz! This is a FREE concert and is open to the public.
Celebrate the Oscars with a pre-ceremony screening of the 1954 classic A Star Is Born on Sunday, February 24th. Starring Judy Garland and James Mason, the film was nominated for an astounding 12 Academy Awards. The matinee begins at 2pm and all seats are only $5.
Looking to next month, Western Bear Foundation will present public forum “Can We Bear the Bias – An Expert’s Take on Grizzly Bears” at 4pm on Saturday, March 2nd. Mediated by Right to Roam’s Chris Sheets, panel members will include Hilary Cooley (USFWS Grizzly Bear Recovery Coordinator), Frank Van Manen (Team Leader of the Inter-agency Grizzly Bear Study), and several state Carnivore Directors from Montana and Wyoming. Guest speaker for the evening will be Shane Mahoney. He is of the most recognized voices in North American conservation, as a leading authority on both the North American Model and the continent’s conservation history. The event will educate the public on grizzly bear conservation and create transparency between managing agencies and the general public. This will be an unbiased campfire-like conversation complete with an audience Q&A. Tickets are $21.50 for adults and $13.50 for youth 17 and under.
International Guitar Night returns to Bozeman on Tuesday, March 5th at 7:30pm. Now in its 19th year of touring, the annual event features some of the most talented and renowned guitarists from around the world. This year, returning favorite Luca Stricagnoli will be joined by three musicians new to The Ellen stage, but veterans of their craft: Flamenco guitarist Samuelito, Gypsy jazz specialist Antoine Boyer, and jazz composer Cenk Erdogan of Turkey. All seats are $28.
