HELP US TO ESTABLISH
A COLD-CLIMATE COMMUNITY LEARNING SITE
WITH A ROLLING HIGH TUNNEL GREENHOUSE
We at Paradise Permaculture Institute (PPI) are a diverse group of professionals, amateurs, and volunteers working to bring a wealth of edible plant species, growing and propagating techniques, and season extension methods to gardeners, nurseries, our supporters, and our communities. We do this by providing experiences, education, and demonstration sites to support SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCTION. This is our passion and maybe it’s yours too – or can be!
A specific educational objective is to demonstrate a sustainable, closed-loop food production cycle: grow / harvest food / harvest seeds / plant seeds / grow again.
Our immediate goal is to purchase a Rolling High Tunnel Greenhouse, which will enable us to operate on a larger scale and supply many varieties of plants to fulfill the growing needs of our programs, classes and demonstration sites. We will use it to research, test, develop, and demonstrate methods to perpetuate growing systems that mimic nature. These methods will produce food in foodscapes that are abundant in cold climates and less labor-intensive…and will still produce abundance with climate changes.
The RHT Greenhouse will be located on our permaculture demonstration site just 1-1/2 miles from the center of Livingston. We will be accessible for tours during the Livingston Bikeable Edible Garden tour in August, and hope to be ready for a fall planting by September 1 of this year. Next year we will be utilizing the greenhouse for classes and educational workshops to be announced.
