Award Winning Film & Dr. Jack Horner Highlight BFS April!
The Bozeman Film Society will screen 45 Years Wednesday, April 13th at 7:30 pm in The Ellen Theatre. With just one week until Kate Mercer’s forty-fifth wedding anniversary, the party planning is going well. But then a letter arrives for her husband. The body of his first love has been discovered, frozen and preserved in the icy glaciers of the Swiss Alps. By the time the party is upon them, five days later, there may not be a marriage left to celebrate. 45 Years offers rich, thought-provoking rewards for fans of adult cinema—and a mesmerizing acting showcase for leads Charlotte Rampling (nominated Best Actress at this year’s Academy Awards) and Tom Courtenay. Rolling Stone’s Peter Traverse states; “Rampling, 68, is the film’s crowning glory.” Written and directed by Andrew Haigh, the film runs 133 minutes. Rotten Tomatoes scores it at 97 percent.
Next up is Steven Spielberg’s jaw-dropping blockbuster, Jurassic World, screening Saturday, April 30th at 3 pm & 7 pm with world renowned Paleontologist and recipient of the prestigious MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, Dr. Jack Horner. As scientific adviser on all the Jurassic Park films, Horner also helped inspire the character of Dr. Alan Grant, played by actor Sam Neill. Dr. Horner’s presentation, ‘Indominus Rex: Fact & Fiction of Genetically Engineered Dinosaurs,’ takes a fascinating look at the real science behind designing genetically modified hybrid dinosaurs. Retiring soon as curator of Paleontology at Museum of the Rockies, don’t miss your chance to hear the engaging Dr. Horner on stage for this very special event!
Jurassic World is part of BFS’ participation in the national Science on Screen (SoS) initiative. Funded by a grant from the Coolidge Corner Theatre Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Bozeman Film Society is one of only 23 independent non-profit cinemas from across the country awarded grants to implement a Science on Screen program. The film is also a collaboration with the Children’s Museum of Bozeman STEAMlab and the Blunderbuss Science and Maker Faire (held April 28-30 at various locations around Bozeman.) Join us one hour before each screening for 3D printing demonstrations from CMB’s STEAMlab in the Ellen Ballroom, with kids receiving their own take home 3D dinosaur bone!
