Wild Joe*s hosts Brooke & Dawn, Cloud Crest, Sarah Beatty & others
Wild Joe*s Coffee Spot in Downtown Bozeman is a great place to check out live music by local artists and those passing through town – without the noise of the sometimes chaotic bar scene. Their menu also offers plenty of delicious caffeinated and other treats to enjoy alongside the music! Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
Cloud Crest follow up with a show on Friday, June 22nd from 6–8pm. The folk/Americana duo from Olympia, WA is Caroline Johnson and Logan Stokes. They met in school and bonded over their love for making music as a way to cope with growth in a rainy city. Through the end of 2018, they’ll be traveling around the country playing that music wherever people are willing to listen. Cloud Crest’s music features warm vocal harmonies woven on top of acoustic guitar, banjo, and a myriad of other instruments.
Check out Dane Andrew Thompsen on Saturday, June 23rd from 6–8pm. For fans of Josh Ritter, The Tallest Man on Earth, and Ryan Bingham, a musical kinship can be found in the work of Thompsen. He’s been writing music for more than a decade, learning to hone his introspective lyrics, hard-driving guitar lines and vocal chords that can reach the rafters in his home town of Pullman, Washington. Now residing in Bozeman, this lifelong student of lyrical expression has been active in local music circles for five years, entertaining crowds in coffee shops and dive bars.
Notable Journey brings a Sunday afternoon show on June 24th from 1–3pm. The acoustic duo from the Pacific Northwest performs a panoply of styles ranging from jazz to folk to pop. Featured vocalist Bhaj Townsend has a silky, provocative singing voice. Her solid guitar work lays the foundation for Gordon Currie’s stunning, intricate guitar accompaniment. Together as Notable Journey, Bhaj and Gordon create an intimate musical experience that takes the listener on an excursion through an array of style, mood and emotion. Notable Journey’s debut recording is due this month.
Nashville solo artist Lucy Isabel performs on Friday, June 29th from 6–8pm. Prior to the move to Tennessee, the folk and Americana singer/songwriter toured both domestically and internationally with her college a cappella group. She’s since established herself as an evocative storyteller. Isabel’s two EPs, Along the Way and Kane, are available now.
Tara Lynn Walrus is back at Wild Joe*s to close out the month on Saturday, June 30th from 6–8pm. Simultaneously witty and weird, cheeky and charming, the Arizona-born singer/songwriter has been performing as a solo act for two years, in addition to collaborating and touring with fellow musicians for over ten. She’s currently promoting the release of her debut solo EP, Habits. The collection includes sweet and relatable tracks like “The Awkward Song” and “Untamable,” bringing the unsparing strangeness and sometimes uncomfortable sweetness of our everyday thoughts and desires into a fresh, thoughtful, searingly endearing light.
Please welcome Sarah Beatty as she opens up month two of summer on Sunday, July 1st from 1–3pm. Quirky and captivating, the songwriter and environmental scientist sounds a bit like Dusty Springfield coming off a science bender. With a voice as sharp as a silver-spur and dangerous as a diamond-backed sidewinder (Raw Ramp), she’s a curious observer and constant inquirer. As an enchanting live performer, Beatty is known for lighting up stages with warmth, wit, and messages that make people think. She visits Bozeman while touring in continued support of her genre-defying album, 2017’s Bandit Queen.
