Verge announces Summer Teen Theater programming
from Verge Theater
Verge’s newly-promoted education director, the amazing Kate Britton, will be teaching virtual summer Teen Theater programming! Kate led the teens last fall as director of Into the Woods, and can’t wait to work again with the group. She’ll be joined in directing by Jaelyn Silvey and assisted by Ansel Mills, both Teen Theater graduates.
Our Summer Teen Theater session will run via Zoom from July 7th-August 13th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5pm, and the cost will be $200. Full and partial scholarships are available, as are payment plans. This program is open to all middle schoolers and high schoolers, including those about to enter middle school and just-graduated seniors.
In this program, we will take a deep dive into the creation of a theatrical performance. It will include weekly online workshops in the typical Teen Theater style along with professional guest star workshops from around the country. These workshops will include topics like: Physical Performance, Vocal Performance, Stage Make-up Techniques, Choreography, Acting for the Camera, Performing Shakespeare, etc. The workshops, which are included in your tuition, will be stand alone and open to the public to attend for a fee.
In addition to the workshops, we will be rehearsing and creating a performance on the topic of Human Connectivity. The teens will have the option to write their own monologues and scenes, or have scenes and monologues assigned to them. The program culminates in what we hope can be an outdoor, socially distanced performance on Thursday, August 13th (location to be determined.) In the event of active community transmission of COVID-19 in the Gallatin Valley, the performance will be online.
We have twenty spots available, with preference given to those who were registered for the cancelled Spring Production. We are anticipating it will fill quickly, so if you’re interested, act now.
