MSU choirs fall concert

Montana State University’s School of Music choirs will give their first performance of the 2016-2017 season at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Reynolds Recital Hall.

The University Chorus, led by MSU music professor Jon Harney, will sing Jacob Gallus’ “Alleluia” for double choir, James Whitbourn’s ”Give us the Wings of Faith,” Shawn Kirchner’s Grammy nominated “Tu Sangre en la Mia,” and will close with the South African folk song “Siyalobola Gogo,” arranged by South African conductor Michael Barrett.

The Montanans, led by MSU vocal professor Kirk Aamot, will sing a new setting of Sara Teasdale’s poem, “I Should Be Glad,” by Susan LaBarr and a piece by Jake Runestad, an exploration of the sounds that one can produce with the human voice, according to Aamot.

The University Chorale, also under Aamot’s leadership, will perform an arrangement by Henry T. Burleigh, in recognition of the 150-year anniversary of his birth. The Chorale will also perform selections from Johannes Brahm’s “Liebeslieder,” accompanied by MSU Music Faculty member Julie Gosswiller and MSU music student Erin Equall.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
