The beloved indie classic Napoleon Dynamite was released 20 years ago. Since then, much has changed – but the characters, as enduring as they are endearing, stay in our hearts. Appealing to the inner-teenager in each of us, the story, and more importantly the dialogue, makes Napoleon Dynamite one of the most quoted movies of our time. It makes us laugh – and laugh hard – over and over again. So round up friends and family on Saturday, August 17th, grab your blankets and head to the Story Mansion Park for the 15th annual “Story Under the Stars”.
Presented each August by the Bozeman Film Society, Friends of the Story Mansion and City of Bozeman Parks & Recreation, this FREE family event on the lush lawn of Story Mansion Park will start with kids activities: tether-ball, Uncle Rico’s football toss, a tater-tot trot, capped off with a dance competition. Arrive early to meet special guests, Lewis the llama and friends from Yellowstone Llamas. Add some dang delicious grub from Taco Montes and The Milky Way and you’ve got yourself a SWEET night!
From the rural town of Preston, Idaho, comes Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder). With a red ‘fro, his moon boots and illegal government ninja moves, he is a new kind of hero. His family consists of fragile brother Kip (Aaron Ruell), who’s seeking his soulmate in online chat rooms; Uncle Rico (Jon Gries), who is stuck in his “glory” days of high school football; and Grandma (Sandy Martin), who enjoys going out to the dunes on her quad-runner. Napoleon spends his days drawing magical beasts, working on his computer hacking skills to impress the chicks, and begrudgingly feeding his Grandma’s pet llama. When his friend Pedro (Efren Ramirez) decides to run for class president, it is Napoleon to the rescue to help him triumph over adversity. Directed by Jared Hess, the film is Rated PG with a runtime of 96 minutes.
Activities, llamas and food trucks begin at 6:30pm. The film starts around 8:45pm in Story Mansion Park, located on the corner of Willson and College. Event admission is complimentary with additional support by Bozeman Scouts, Lakeshore Cabins & Campground and the Montana Film Office.
