Swamp Dawg kick off Emerson’s ‘Lunch on the Lawn’
Join your friends and neighbors for a summer favorite returning to the Emerson this month. The 2019 Lunch on the Lawn series will unfold every Wednesday from 11:30am–1:30pm, July 10th through August 14th. A Bozeman tradition, this free community event features live music, local food vendors, and children’s activities. Entertain the kids while enjoying music and mingling with other parents. Or, get away from your desk and soak up some sunshine on the Emerson’s west lawn. Here’s a look at the upcoming music lineup.
Swamp Dawg kicks things off on Wednesday, July 10th. The local band brings New Orleans-style funk, second line, and swampy Southern Soul to Southwest Montana and beyond. Inspired by the music of Dr. John, Professor Longhair, the Neville Brothers, Irma Thomas, Tab Benoit, Snooks Eaglin, and the artists of Stax Records and the Memphis Soul scene, the band brings forth a relaxed yet energized beat that gets you on your feet and ready to dance. The core four includes Susan Miller (vocals), Blaise Arsenault (guitar, vocals), Jamey Warren (bass guitar), and Michael “Mikey G” Gillan (drums, vocals).
Future Lunch on the Lawn performers include the Tyler James Band on July 17th, Robiletta, Tsuru & Greenberg on July 24th, and Bridger Mountain Big Band on July 31st. Beat Deaf is set for August 7th, followed by Sparkle Bear with The Tingle Hoarders to close out the series on August 14th.
Food vendors will include Totally Tasty Food Truck with an organic menu of sliders and assorted hot sandwiches; Bubby’s Cuppa Jo with espresso beverages, taco in a bag, salads and pulled pork sandwiches; and Batter Queens with sweet and savory Liège waffles. And for dessert, ice cream and roasted nuts from Genuine Ice Cream. Delish!
Located at 111 S Grand Ave., the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture serves as a primary resource for the arts, arts education, and cultural activities in Southwest Montana. Learn more about Lunch on the Lawn and other happenings at www.theemerson.org. •
