With fresh powder and a chill in the air, Bridger Bowl is set to host a number of events throughout the winter season in addition to their usual everyday downhill fun. Here’s a look at what’s coming up in the beginning of March. The annual Sluice Box Slalom returns for snowboarders. The banked GS race will be held on Saturday, March 5th. Cost of the event is $25 per competitor and pre-registration is required by NOON on March 4th. Must be 16 years or older to enter (under 18 requires parental consent). This special event will feature a half day lift rate for competitors to be picked up at competitor’s meeting.
Live music will be provided in the Jim Bridger Lodge by Dusty Boxcars with beer promo by Elysian.
The Downhill Skills for Backcountry Skiers Workshop will also be held on Saturday, March 5th. This workshop will help you manage variable snow, ski more efficiently, and hone solid fundamentals that make any backcountry day even better.
The 35th Annual Pinhead Classic will be held on Saturday, March 12th. This is a crazy, zany costume race run by the Montana Telemark Corporation for boards of any type. Support avalanche education. Live music will be provided in the Jim Bridger Lodge by Skavocado with beer promo by Bozone Brewing. Buy early and save big! Save $10 if you purchase tickets before March 4th and $5 before March 11th. Tickets are available through facebook.com/pinheadclassic/. Dress as your favorite dead glam rocker and an ski though the untraditional dual slalom “race course.” (11am Bobcat Briderbowl “race” registration 9-10am). This years theme is “Space Glam: a Tribute to David Bowie.” There will be an after party held at the Eagles Ballroom upstairs beginning at 6pm with free dinner by La Tinga, free Bozone beer (‘til 8), and awards, auction & raffle to follow. There will also be live music by Moth & Brianna Moore and the Sasquatch Funk beginning at 8:30pm (doors at 8pm). Music is for those 21+. Come and support the Avalanche Center and the Darren Johnson Avalanche Education Memorial Fund! As much as the Pinhead is about having fun, it’s also about supporting the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center (GNFAC). Over recent years, the Pinhead has donated over $24,000 to GNFAC, supporting their work in providing our region with daily avalanche hazard forecasting so that we may ALL enjoy our snow-covered mountains safely and responsibly. Pinhead also supports Search & Rescue and KGLT.
Finally, enter in Point and Chute, a juried film festival with a public screening to be held on Saturday, March 19th at 4:30pm in the Jim Bridger Lodge. Pre-registration is required by 4pm on March 12th. Submit films and entry forms at the marketing office in the Jim Bridger Lodge. Entry fee is $20, one release per entry.
