The Denver-based Rough Cuts bring forth new energy to music fans who love the heroes and outlaws of old. Influenced by the songs and personalities of legends like Waylon and Willie, they drive their sound with blazing guitars and a rock n’ roll attitude. The band pays respect to classic styles, but anyone can tell from their overdriven sound that they’re far from traditionalists. The Rough Cuts have shared the stage in support of artists including Dwight Yoakam, Shooter Jennings, Blackberry Smoke, The Marshall Tucker Band, Shakey Graves, Junior Brown, Cody Canada & The Departed, The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Sunny Sweeney and more. Their latest album, Shovel Full of Coal, is available now.
Electronic music project Exmag is set for a Filling Station set on Thursday, May 16th at 9pm. This to this 21+ show are $9 in advance and $12 at the door. Doors at 8pm.
Where the new and the old are reconciled, where powerful and meek, beautiful and tragic are one, exists Exmag. These musicians take many forms and use their driving, soulful fusion to bring you a celebration of Extraordinary Magnitude. Celestial harmonies and ancient rhythms take you on a journey neither here nor there, to explore the space in between. The group’s newly released EP, The Walls That Divide Us, is available now.
A reviewer for Empty Lighthouse writes, “Containing all the right elements of funk, soul, blues, R&B, and electronica, this ever-growing contingent of artists is not just another EDM group, but a production collective who explore new means of pushing the limits by combining live instruments and vocalists with their own synthesized beats.”
Looking ahead, psychedelic indie pop act Ages and Ages visits Bozeman with a Filler show on Saturday, May 25th. Local rock band WireRider will kick off the music at 9pm. This to this 21+ show are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Doors at 8pm.
Ages and Ages is touring in support of Me You They We, the band’s just-released new album which serves as “a reflection of their experiences over the past two years of climate change catastrophes, racist policies, rising fascism and an overt culture of dread of an unknowable future. [Principle songwriters Rob Oberdorf and Tim Perry] took their time to document some of the micro and macro feelings that living through near-daily atrocities evoke. Me You They We is as much a personal record, a journal of specific instances, as it is an indictment of the political landscape.”
Advance tickets for these and other upcoming shows are available in-store at Cactus Records and www.cactusrecords.net. For more information, visit www.chickenjamwest.com. •
