Connectivity, health & relationships themes of upcoming PechaKucha Nights on Feb 21 & 22 at The Ellen Theatre, Wednesday and Thursday, February 21st and 22nd. The shows start at 6:40pm each night.
Finding herself single again, entrepreneur, author and business coach BB Webb recounts an amusing tale of navigating the often-bewildering world of online dating; Lydia Stewart describes how she learned new ways to relate to her beloved grandmother as dementia eroded her memory; and Larry Newman describes the eclectic group of new friends he has made from his bicycling trips around the world.
The presentations are part of the next PechaKucha Night(s) at The Ellen Theatre, Wednesday and Thursday, February 21st and 22nd. The shows start at 6:40pm each night.
February’s lineup also includes Jennifer Boyer, Bridget Wilkinson and Cathy Costakis who helped create “A Seat at the Table” to bring diverse members of Bozeman’s community together for face-to-face conversations in homes, break rooms and even the local detention center. Rabbi Ed Stafman will tell audiences what he learned from his recent trip to the border with a group of rabbis hosted by Jesuit priests where they learned about the varied challenges facing migrants seeking entry to the US. And Casey Jones, an ICU cardiac nurse now teaching at MSU will describe his recent work teaching young nurses in Uganda through a collaboration of the Peace Corps, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and Seed Global Health.
Other presenters include Nancy Chen, who will introduce attendees to the concept of Connect-Agility – making connections with people who see the world very differently from us; Lillian Krach, a high school senior, who will share her passion for saving coral reefs; Sayed Abdelaziz Keliey, now teaching at Irving Elementary, who created a successful community foundation in his poor town in Egypt with a group of lifelong friends; and Jaimi Melville, who will relate the myths and misconceptions about living with an eating disorder.
The evening’s emcee will be Cara Wilder, multi-talented director, actor, teacher and Bozeman’s leading blushing violet. Barley & Vine is the presenting sponsor for the February event.
PechaKucha (peh-chak-cha) offers anyone with a passion or a vision – designers, artists, inventors, architects, adventurers, entrepreneurs – an opportunity to share their ideas with the community during a social, fast-paced and friendly get together. There’s just one catch: presenters have only 20 slides x 20 seconds each, a total of 6 minutes, 40 seconds!
Presentations begin promptly at 6:40pm. Attendees are encouraged to come early and socialize. All seats are $9. Student tickets will be available for $5 at the door. Wine, beer, and concessions will be sold in the lobby beginning one hour prior to showtime.
