Multi-tiered community resource launches in Southwest Montana
KGVM Community Radio, serving Gallatin Valley residents and visitors of our area, has announced its affiliation with Pacifica Radio, a national source for news coverage, commentary and music. KGVM is a local, volunteer nonprofit organization with an FCC license to operate a high power FM radio station and will broadcast at 95.9 MHz on the FM airwaves, with programming also available online. Pacifica will expand KGVM’s programming by offering high quality diverse radio content not previously available locally.
As a volunteer powered, community-building station, KGVM provides information and tools for learning and engaging on a platform for showcasing and sharing news, events, and viewpoints not available anywhere else in the Gallatin Valley. The station is dedicated to providing recorded coverage of local presentations such as “The Extreme History Project,” local music, art, and public events held at the Bozeman Public Library.
According to Board Chairman Stephen Durbin, “Our goal is to not only provide current programming on exciting people, ideas and activities here, but also to serve as a repository of local history and culture into the future.”
KGVM is currently conducting a fundraising campaign to get the station on the air. In the meantime, they are providing an online presence on their website. Area events, culture, community issues, opinions and history are available as podcasts. KGVM is working to expand their coverage by collaborating with more local nonprofit organizations to highlight the exciting work being done in Southwest Montana.
As a Pacifica affiliate, KGVM will now also provide national and international coverage including “Democracy Now!” with Amy Goodman.
