Multiple clubs and organizations at Montana State University will host events on campus in February in celebration of Black History Month. All events are open to the public.
The Black Student Union will host a free Hip Hop Bash from 7–9pm Monday, February 10th, in Strand Union Building Ballrooms A and B. The event is a musical tribute dedicated to award-winning Black artists. It is sponsored by the Dean of Students office and supported by the Diversity and Inclusion Student Commons.
The MSU Library will host Douglass Day from 10am to 1pm Friday, Feb. 14th, in the Strand Union Building’s Alumni Legacy Lounge and online. The free celebration of Frederick Douglass will include music, birthday cake, speakers, voter registration and more. It is one of the MSU Library’s knowledge-connecting events, designed to empower campus and community members to improve access to information. The African Students Association at MSU will host an evening celebrating Africa at its annual African Cultural Night. The free event will take place at 5pm Saturday, Feb. 22nd, in the Strand Union Building ballrooms. African Cultural Night will celebrate the drama, music, cultures and more of the African continent and diaspora. This year’s theme is “Sankofa,” a phrase meaning “back to our roots.”
The One O’Clock Jazz Ensemble will perform a Black history concert at 7:30pm Monday, Feb. 24th, in Howard Hall’s Reynolds Recital Hall. Tickets are $5 for MSU students, $15 for general admission and free for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students. In addition, ASMSU Films is holding screenings of several films in celebration of Black History Month. All screenings will be held in the Procrastinator Theater in the SUB. Admission for each film is $2 for students and $5 for community members.

- Sing Sing will be shown at 7pm on Feb. 27th and 28th and March 1st.
- The Color Purple (2023 version) will be shown at 9pm on Feb. 27th and 28th and March 1st.
