Montana State University School of Art will host a poster exhibition in the Helen E. Copeland Gallery in Haynes Hall through October 9th. “The Right to Decide” is a collection of new posters on the subject of voting rights and fair elections from a global perspective. This poster collection is presented by Posters without Borders, a biannual invitation only exhibition.
Posters Without Borders invitational exhibition is organized by Eric Boelts, Antonio Castro, and Erin Wright. The mission of Posters Without Borders is to present work by artists from all over the world exploring social and political issues. This particular exhibition features 62 artists from 25 countries, including some of the most respected poster artists in the world like Eden Rodriguez and Elmer Sosa.
Describing the philosophy behind the poster show, exhibition co-creator Eric Boelts said, “At the core of our ‘human-ness’ is the capability for rational thought that allows us to make decisions about the exterior forces that impact our lives. Also at the core of our human-ness is the ability to create and appreciate art. Combining these elements resulted in The Right To Decide Exhibition.”
This non-partisan, political inquiry examines, on a global scale, how choosing our leaders, laws, and modes of government is an innate human right.
“We are pleased to be collaborating with members of the community bringing awareness to voting rights,” says show organizer Bruce Barnhart, MSU School of Art faculty member.
Forward Montana, a voter advocacy group partnering with the show, will have voter registration boxes at the Helena E. Copeland Gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Small satellite exhibitions will be staged throughout the Gallatin Valley as a way to engage all members of the community.
The exhibition will run through October 9th at the Helen E. Copeland Gallery. The Gallery is located on the second floor of the School of Art in Haynes Hall, on the MSU campus, across from the Duck Pond. Gallery hours are Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm. This exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information on this exhibition or Posters Without Borders, visit www.hecgallery.com/. For information about the Helen E.
