MOR hosts July events set to feed body & mind
In celebration of Independence Day, Museum of the Rockies (MOR) will host an Ice Cream Social at the Living History Farm on Tuesday, July 4th from 2–4pm. Join for the annual old-fashioned event and enjoy cones of delicious ice cream, live music, historical crafts, and traditional Fourth of July festivities. This afternoon is free and open to the public.
The Yellowstone Center is pleased to announce the inaugural Klein S. Gilhousen Lecture for the Conversation between Faith and Science, set for Thursday, July 6th in MOR’s Hager Auditorium at 7:30pm. Dr. Eric Priest, Emeritus Professor at St. Andrews University, Scotland, will address the topic “Reason and Wonder: Integrating Science and Faith.” This lecture is free and open to the public.
A theoretical solar physicist, Dr. Priest began teaching at St. Andrews University in 1968. He also serves on the Doctrine Committee of the Scottish Episcopal Church and sits on the Board of Directors of the John Templeton Foundation. Dr. Priest has edited 15 books, including Reason and Wonder: Why Science and Faith Need Each Other, and has authored three research monographs and 460 journal papers.
MOR gets the Wine & Culinary Classic festivities started with a book signing on Friday, July 7th in the Main Lobby from 1–2pm. Come meet this year’s Master Sommelier and New York Times bestselling author, Richard Betts. He’ll be signing copies of The Essential Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Wine Expert. In the first book of its kind, Betts helps readers scratch and sniff their way to expertise by introducing the basic components of wine, enabling anyone to discover the difference between a Syrah and a Sangiovese and get the glass they love every time.
Then join for MOR’s 16th Annual Wine & Culinary Classic on Saturday, July 8th from 6–10:30pm. Attendees will SIP a specially chosen selection of extraordinary wines, SAVOR delicious foods prepared by some of Montana’s finest caterers and restaurants, and — most importantly — will SUPPORT Museum of the Rockies through Live and Silent Auctions. The event will also feature a Pay-It-Forward Auction that specifically provides funding for the museum’s Changing Exhibits program, helping to ensure MOR is always able to bring the most engaging and vibrant exhibits from around the world to this community. The event promises to be a festive evening filled with delectable foods, fine spirits, and a lot of fun!
MOR presents another edition of Hops & History on Tuesday, July 25th from 5:30–7:30pm. Prohibition and Rehabilitation: The Fall of American Brewing and its Recent Rebirth will feature selections from Bozeman Brewing Company. The evening will look back at the history of American prohibition and how it crushed the brewing industry in the 1910s. The recovery from prohibition will be explored and celebrated through the rise of craft brewing beginning in the late 20th century.
Looking ahead, the Hops & History: Season Celebration with Montana Brewery Museum’s Steve Lozar featuring tastings from many Gallatin Valley breweries will wrap the annual series on August 29th.
Admission for the monthly tasting presentations is $8, plus a $2 souvenir mug charge for each participant’s first event — reuse your mug! Admission for the closing celebration is $15, including a souvenir tasting glass and beer tickets. Must be 21+ to attend ALL Hops & History events.
Now in its fourth year, MOR’s Hops & History program continues to support the Museum’s Living History Farm. Every month during the summer season, Hops & History brings a lively audience of adults to the Farm by pairing a talk on the Gallatin Valley’s brewing past and/or present with beer tastings from local breweries. Join MOR’s Curator of History, Michael Fox, for fun and educational presentations. NEW for 2017 — enjoy the Season Celebration on the last Tuesday evening of August with many Gallatin Valley breweries!
