MOR features reptiles, trips to space & Montana’s past
A reptile’s personality may not be the first thing that slithers to mind, but the latest exhibit at Museum of the Rockies is ready to showcase each unique species’ habits and behaviors.
Reptiles: The Beautiful and the Deadly is now open. Reptiles have enduring appeal, and this interactive zoological exhibition will bring you eye to eye with living species from around the world. Deadly snakes, colorful lizards, unusual turtles and rugged crocodilians are exhibited in naturalistic habitats. You can “milk” a viper, learn to speak croc in under five minutes, and test your knowledge with “Turtle Trivia” or “Lizard Wizard.” An experienced zoo professional remains with the exhibit to care for the living collection.
MOR’s Living History Farm is now open for the summer season, allowing visitors to experience what life was like in the Treasure State more than 100 years ago.
In 1989, the Tinsley House was relocated to Museum, bringing with it the history of Montana’s homesteading era. Skilled costumed interpreters will take you back in time as they cook over a wood-burning stove, demonstrate cooking skills and recipes from the 1890s, tend to the Heirloom Garden, and forge iron in the blacksmith’s shop. Take time this summer to enjoy the beautiful sights of the garden, the smells of home cooking, and the history of a time gone by that lives on today.
The Living History Farm is included with Museum admission. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
Also at MOR, Taylor Planetarium has reopened in a limited capacity. To Space and Back and Dark Understanding Dark Matter are now showing multiple times daily.
Displayed on a 40-foot dome, this state of the art projection system allows visitors to experience our universe and world in vivid colors, dramatic motion and brilliant displays of light.
Taylor Planetarium shows are included with Museum admission. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please note: During Montana’s phased reopening, MOR will limit admittance with reservations encouraged. Walk-ins admitted if availability allows. Face-coverings are required for entry into the Museum, Planetarium and Living History Farm.
