The Montana State University Leadership Institute will conduct a free leadership workshop that will brings tips, along with stories of success, to help leaders push through their fears at noon Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the MSU Procrastinator Theatre.
Carmen McSpadden, director of the MSU Leadership Institute, will direct the Lead Courageously workshop focused on learning what it takes to communicate when you do not have all the answers, making decisions to move ahead, having uncomfortable conversations to take you from “seeing nothing, doing nothing” to taking action.

“When we face our fears, we are courageous,” McSpadden said. “And when we consider the most important leadership traits, courage is the big one, as it fosters trust.”
McSpadden is president of the board of Headwaters Economics and serves on the Humanities Montana board. She was adjunct management faculty for the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, Leadership Fellows director and serves in the Leadership MSU and Developing Excellence in Academic Leadership programs. McSpadden is also involved in the Leadership Montana program. She was recently selected the winner of the prestigious Athena International Leadership Award.
McSpadden will be joined by panelists Liz Ann Kudrna, triathlete and entrepreneurial founder of “Body in Balance” Pilates studio and Ryan Erickson, graduate assistant for LGBTQ Student Support in the MSU Diversity Awareness Office. Kudrna and Erickson will be sharing personal stories of courage and perseverance.
