From director Justin Kurzel and the producers of The King’s Speech comes a thrilling take on the classic tale, Macbeth. Screening at 7:30 pm Tuesday, January 19th at The Ellen Theatre.
This big-screen Macbeth is all blood and ice, a stirring, unflinching retelling of Shakespeare’s tale of a Scottish thane (Academy Award nominee, Michael Fassbender), his ambitious wife (Academy Award nominee, Marion Cotillard) and a terrible deed that haunts them, leaving their hands forever stained.
This visually stunning adaptation is faithful to the source material without sacrificing its own cinematic flair, rising on the strength of a mesmerizing Fassbender and cosmically powerful performance by Cotillard to join the upper echelon of big-screen Shakespeare adaptations, standing alongside the iconic Welles, Kurosawa and Polanski Macbeths. LA Times film critic Gary Goldstein states, “Viewers will find themselves immersed in this classic medieval tragedy, a kind of Macbeth for the Game of Thrones crowd.”
This event also features “Swords & Lords on Film,” an opening introduction by Kevin Asselin, Artistic Director of Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, and Gordon Carpenter, Actor/Fight Director and company member of Bozeman Actors Theater. Rated R, the film runs 113 min. Tickets are $8.75/General; $8.50/Seniors & Students (plus fees).

And Vikander does wonders as a wife who stands by her woman,” writes Rolling Stone film critic, Peter Traverse. Rated R, the film runs 120 minutes.
